Posterior Segment Evaluation
The retina, optic nerve and vitreous sit at the back of the eye and are central to how you see. Evaluation here is especially important for people with diabetes or high blood pressure—two of the leading causes of preventable vision loss in adults—as well as those with high refractive error, sudden flashes or floaters, or a family history of eye disease.

- Dilated retinal examination
- Assessment of the optic nerve and macula
- Screening for diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy
- Evaluation for macular degeneration and retinal tears or detachment risk
- Referral or follow-up planning when required
What to expect at your visit
- Dilating drops, which blur vision for a few hours
- A thorough view of the back of the eye
- Advice to arrange transport home after dilation
